Where`s secularism, asks Emraan after being denied house

"Am I a criminal or a terrorist?" asked an upset Emraan Hashmi Friday. The Bollywood actor alleged he had been denied a house he wanted to buy in the upmarket Pali Hill area of Mumbai because he was Muslim.
The actor, who was not given a no objection certificate (NOC), believes the housing society in Pali Hill was hiding the real reason for its refusal.
"This has political connotations, so they don`t want to talk about it openly. Yesterday (Thursday), they told me that I can`t get the NOC. I asked them why aren`t you giving me the certificate -- am I a criminal, or a terrorist or have I done anything illegal?" Emraan told reporters here with his uncle and well-known filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt by his side.

"It is strange that they don`t tell you on your face that you can`t get a house because you are a Muslim. It would have been easier if they would have told me openly. What they told me is that they can`t allow me to live there because I am a serial kisser and my presence will have a bad influence on the children staying there.

"Being a celebrity if I`m facing problems in buying a house here, I wonder what kind of problems others would have been facing. All the time we are talking about secularism but with such incidents what secularism are people talking about?" asked the actor.

Emraan said someone suggested to him that he purchase the house in the name of his wife Parveen, who is a Hindu. "I can do that, but why should I do that?" he asked.

Bhatt said such discrimination was a serious problem plaguing the country.

"Even 62 years after independence, the virus of communalism is alive in an area like Pali Hill, which is known as India`s Beverly Hills where stars like Sunil Dutt lived and Dilip Kumar is still living there. It`s a serious problem and is the country ready to accept that communalism is still surviving?" he said.

"There are also certain societies in the area that do not give NOCs to non-Hindus," he said.

Emraan, who featured in films like "Murder", "Gangster - A Love Story", wanted to buy a house in Pali Hill so that he could stay close to his parents, but the actor was refused the NOC by Pali Hill`s Nibbana Cooperative Society.

He has filed a complaint with the State Minorities` Commission, demanding action against the society members. The society reportedly has mostly Hindus and a couple of Catholic families.

This is not the first time Hashmi has faced such a problem.

"I faced a similar situation in August 2007, when I was looking for a house in the same area; residents and brokers told me I would not be able to get a house because I was a Muslim. But I later managed to get one," Emraan told a newspaper Thursday.

Earlier Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar had faced problems in getting a house in Juhu and TV actor Aamir Khan filed a litigation after being refused a house in Lokhandwala.

Big banners want SRK not me: Saif

Even the big filmmakers like Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali approach Shah Rukh first. If he turns them down, their next options are Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. And when things don't work out with them too, they perhaps may approach him.

However, by setting up his own production house Illuminati Films Pvt Ltd, Saif feels that he can make ample films for himself and can even give himself parts that he's wanted to play since long.

Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif seems to have doused the flames between them and have become friends again. Recently Katrina had flattered Kareena by appreciating her professionalism. Bips turned down Billy?

Two days back we had reported that Bipasha Basu's Hollywood dreams were shattered as producer Smita Thackeray had backed out of the much-publicised psychological thriller Chimera, citing professional and personal reasons. However, it is learnt through the grapevine that it wasn't Smita behind the film's abandonment but Bipasha herself.

According to sources, the film to be jointly directed by Daniel Silverman and Tapan Saha, was to go on floors last week. The first long schedule was supposed to begin in Kodaikanal on July 23. However, Bipasha failed to turn up on the sets leading to the shoot being cancelled.

It was later learnt that the Bong babe had certain reservations about the project. The actress had even raised some questions about the film for which she got unconvincing answers. Even though no one knows what her reservations were, the dusky beauty had put her foot down and refused to shoot.

Apparently, Hollywood star Billy Zane (of Titanic and Phantom fame) was on his way to India to get started on the Hollywood meets Bollywood project, however, he was stopped in his tracks by the filmmakers as Bipasha denied shooting at the end moment.

Saif-Kareena on a kissing spree

Can you name the most-kissed couple in Bollywood? No prizes for guessing! Lovebirds Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are on a kissing spree of late, and that too with other actors.

Yes, Saif-Kareena have kissed 15 times in just two films. Just on the heels of Kareena kissing Akshay Kumar 10 times in their recently released film Kambakkht Ishq, Saif is said to have kissed Deepika Padukone five times in their film Love Aaj Kal which is set for release tomorrow.

Blogging? No way, says Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan

Bollywood stars are increasingly using blogs, Twitter and social networking sites to reach out to fans but it`s still a no-no for actor Saif Ali Khan.
"I don`t believe in blogging, but that is a personal opinion," Khan told reporters on Tuesday.

"I don`t believe in too much of a connect with the audience because they should see a fresh character on screen every time."

Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Shilpa Shetty are among several Bollywood celebrities using the Internet to interact with their fans.

But Saif Ali Khan described social networking sites Facebook and Orkut as a "little dangerous for actors" and said he gets a thousand friendship requests every day via email.

Khan, whose new movie `Love Aaj Kal` opens in cinemas on Friday, was speaking at an event to promote a mobile and internet gaming platform for the film.

"I think constant communication is detrimental," the 38-year-old actor said.

Madonna turns journalist to write about religion

‘Queen of Pop’ Madonna has turned journalist for Israel's biggest-selling newspaper.

The 50-year-old pop star's article on her conversion to the Jewish cult of Kaballah has been displayed prominently on the front page of Yediot Ahronot with a byline.

The article titled 'How My Life Changed' was translated into Hebrew by the paper and an excerpt of it was published on Wednesday while the full article will be published on Friday.

In her article, the singer describes her religious awakening more than a decade ago.

Madonna who was born a Christian had alienated the Church with her antics including her many sexually explicit stage shows where she had appeared crucified.

She is an astute follower of Kaballah and has adopted the Hebrew name of Esther and studies Jewish mysticism.

Josh Brolin says ‘sex with Megan Fox’ was uncomfortable

Actor Josh Brolin found shooting a love scene with Megan Fox in new film ‘Jonah Hex’ “uncomfortable”.

"To be honest, it was uncomfortable; those scenes are uncomfortable,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

In the movie adapted from a comic book, the ‘No Country For Old Men’ star plays gun-slinging ‘Jonah Hex’ who falls in love with ‘Leila’, a prostitute played by Fox.

And his look in the film demanded him to spend three hours every day with his mouth pulled back and stuck with gaffer tape, as prosthetics and a mouthpiece was fitted.

It was apparently another discomforting factor, apart from the room full of cameras, while doing the sex scenes with the ‘Transformers’ actress.

He said: "It was especially uncomfortable because I had this thing on my face. It was tough to figure out how to kiss with that thing on."

Meanwhile, Fox revealed about the character she plays in the film, she said: "She`s a prostitute. It`s sort of like a post-Civil War apocalyptic western - and, unfortunately for women, that`s how they made their living back then.

"Leila`s a tough, no-nonsense prostitute. I was really happy with it. It is a dark, no-nonsense, no bulls**t comic book movie."

Katrina gets Hangover with Abhishek

Katrina Kaif and Abhishek Bachchan make an awkward pair; not that they won't look good together but Salman Khan was linked with Abhishek's wife Aishwarya in the past. If everything goes on well, Katrina and Abhishek will act together in the Hindi version of the Hollywood hit film The Hangover.

Director Anees Bazmee has got the movie rights of The Hangover starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Heather Graham. The Hindi version to be produced by Firoz Nadiadwala, actors like Katrina, Abhishek, Paresh Rawal, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh are likely to play the main roles. Katrina would play the female lead role, Abhishek would play the role of Bradley Cooper and Paresh Rawal would play Zach Galifianakis' role.

Court orders FIR against Rakhi Sawant

A local court on Tuesday ordered filing of case of forgery and violation of Copy Right Act against item girl and TV personality Rakhi Sawant and six others.

The Judicial Magistrate Jaipur ordered the filing of FIR for allegedly using the script and the word Swayambar in a popular TV reality show in an unauthorised manner, on a complaint filed by one Gaurav Tiwari.

The complainant told the court that he had the copyright of the script and the word Swayambar in 2008 and also showed it to a private channel.

However, later the script was used in the reality show Rakhi Ka Swayambar in an unauthorised way, the complainant alleged.

Sonam Kapoor might have upset her calling her 'Aunty Ji' but Aishwarya Bachchan is now herself donning a old age make up. The former Miss World is doing this for her Vipul Shah directed movie Action Replay. Aishwarya is working with make up artist Paul to get the perfect old age look on her face for the movie.

A source on the sets has disclosed that when the make-up was done for the first time it did not work out. Paul then took six hours to get her the perfect old age look. Star Plus replies to show cause notice

Star Plus, the general entertainment channel that telecasts the controversial show Sach Ka Samna sent its reply to the Information & Broadcasting ministry to the show cause notice issued to it last week. In its reply the channels has denied having violated any programming guidelines prescribed under the Cable TV (Regulation) Act, 1995.

Star Plus has said that that Sach Ka Saamna is based on an international game show and it does not, in any manner, depict obscenity or vulgarity. The channel also argued that it issues parental guidance warning during the telecast of each of the episodes. It also added that the show was being aired at a late night timing of 10.30 pm and thus it was not violating any provisions of the programming code.

The ministry had sent the producers a show cause notice to the channel after there was a furore in Rajya Sabha over the programme. The MPs claimed the content to be obscene which offending good taste and decency. The contestants are asked 21 questions in the show ranging from their professional to personal life. Some of the questions asked in the show so far have been very intimate.

Jungle me Mangal for Priyanka

Shooting for Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming thriller in the Sri Lankan jungles was certainly no joyride for the 25-year-old Priyanka Kothari aka Nisha Kothari.

During the schedule in the Sigiriya jungles, Priyanka had to battle some of her worst fears.

“I had to live with eight creepy lizards who used to roam around in my room. I can say that I'm braver now. Earlier, I used to be petrified if I used to see even one lizard in my room, but I had so many in close proximity in the same room in the jungle,” Priyanka is quoted as saying by IANS.

The hot actress added that the fear of lizards was relatively less than that of snakes and elephants.

“You wouldn't even come to know when a snake might enter your room. Then the biggest threat was from wild elephants. A lot of times we had to change our route to avoid them,” she revealed.

Believed to be inspired by the Hollywood thriller ‘Predator’, ‘Agyaat’ tells the story of a film unit that goes for a jungle-shoot. Soon the crew members get killed one by one, leaving the rest running for their lives.

Since the movie was shot in the rough jungle terrain, Priyanka sustained many injuries while shooting. “A lot of things happened with me during the shooting - like my ankle injury, elbow injury, then so many scratches, insect bites…” she said.

The movie, set for release on August 7 has Priyanka pairing with Telugu actor Nitin.

Bollywood director arrested for raping actress

As Shiney Ahuja serves judicial custody for allegedly raping his maid servant the tinsel town is again in news for the wrong reason. Small time producer-director Ramkumar Kumawat was arrested on Sunday after a 24-year old aspiring actress accused him of raping her in his office after promising her a role in his upcoming movie.

Kumawat who had directed a few devotional music videos in the past had asked her to come to his office alone to discuss a role. When she arrived he alleged forced himself onto her and raped her. Kumawat later warned her warned her against speaking about the incident to anybody. The actress who managed to escape accompanied by her friend filed a complaint with the Versova Police Station.

Police arrested Kumawat early on Sunday and has been remanded in police custody till July 29. The victim has been sent for medical tests to authenticate her allegations. The police has conducted preliminary investigation and further progress will be made once they have the medical reports of the victim. Incidentally both the case involving Shiney and Ramkumar have happened in the Andheri West area.

Akshay-Suniel forget differences

Nine years after Hera Pheri, director Priyadarshan will reunite the same team in Venus' De Dhana Dhan. There were a number of factors that made the casting almost impossible.

Akshay Kumar has turned into a superstar capable of delivering solo hits. And Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar were reportedly having a tiff because Suniel withdrew himself from Singh Is Kinng at the last minute.

However now all is well and Priyadarshan has managed to bring the duo together in De Dhana Dhan. The film also stars Paresh Rawal and Katrina Kaif.

Sikhs demand apology from Saif

Saif Ali Khan's Love Aaj Kal is all set to release on July 31. However it seems like the film might have just run into some more trouble with the Sikh community.
The actor plays a Sikh in a part of the movie and the Punjab Cultural and Heritage Board had pointed out certain issues with the film.
The Board's president Charan Singh Sapra had pointed out that the community had a problem with Saif Ali Khan's beard.
Sapra had also suggested that the part where Saif goes to the Gurudwara to woo his girl might be considered as objectionable.
At a meeting held on Saturday in Mumbai, Sapra said that the Board had decided to move to court until Saif apologies to all the members of the Sikh community. Apparently he has also threatened to stop the release of the film.
Not very long ago Saif Ali Khan along with his production team held a special screening of the film for members of the Sikh community where they had raised objections to Saif's trimmed beard and a few scenes set in the Gurudwara.
While the Board is fine if the star does not re-shoot the film, Sapra has demanded an apology from Saif Ali Khan.

Shahid's mom wants Priyanka

Are they in love? Aren't they? Have they split? Questions will keep popping up but Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are certainly going the right direction. It won't be difficult for Shahid to bring her home because his mother Neelima Azim shares great rapport with her.

Shahid's mom has gone one step further by offering a film role to Priyanka. Neelima said that she had met Priyanka regarding her directorial debut. She added that she is the only girl from Bollywood whom she has approached.


However, Neelima maintained that her relationship with the actress is very professional. She added that Priyanka loves the character she wants her to play but it all depends on her co-star. She feels that her son Shahid should know what's going on and consults him before taking any step. She said that he is the right person to give her advice, as it's her first film. She also revealed that Shahid is very much aware of Priyanka's presence in the film.

Now, the big question is whether Neelima will cast her son Shahid opposite Priyanka. Anyway, why take the trouble of searching for actors when you one at home! What say?

When Priyanka 'threw off' Shahid!

Priyanka Chopra aka Piggy Chops and Sasha aka Shahid Kapoor had to ride a scooter while shooting a song sequence in the upcoming film Kaminey. But Both Priyanka and Shahid went down with a thud on the mucky road.

A birdie informs, that the shot was simple enough; they just had to ride till about 15 meters. However, it got complicated when Priyanka could not manage the balance. They did a couple of takes but the scooter seemed to not be in her grip, and as a result both she and Shahid went down.

Birdie confirms that the actors are unhurt and after the incident both burst into laughter.

A little birdie tells me that Mani Ratnam is one angry man these days. It seems the filmmaker is mighty miffed with the rumours in the media about Ravana.

The rumours have to do with a supposed re-shoot of the film where Southern star Vikram who has supposedly overshadowed Abhishek Bachchan's performance.

Whereas it seems that the reasons why Mani and his team are packing themselves off to the deep jungles of Kerala are varied.

Aishwarya miffed with media

Upset over "fabricated" media stories about her private life, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has threatened legal action against those responsible, a statement issued by her publicist said Thursday.

"Certain sections of the press have been behaving in a callous manner and have been putting together articles or pieces without any semblance of truth and furthermore they have been attributing quotes to the actor which are baseless and false. Previously our client preferred to remain silent to let better sense prevail be it the news when she was married off to a tree or otherwise. This silence should not be misconstrued as a weakness," the statement read.

The statement was issued to counter an article titled "Career more important than family" by a website where one of the quotes attributed to the actress read: "If I want to remain in the film industry then I need to stay fit", that implied that she will not have children. The article also stated that her actor-husband Abhishek Bachchan was in agreement with her stand.

"She is one actress who never made any statements that her marriage can wait and she will focus on her career. When she did, she got her family's blessings and got married in the middle of a film and has been a thorough professional even after her wedding," the statement said.

"We must not forget that besides being a star in every right Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is about a daughter, a wife, and a daughter in law, a symbol of our tradition and she has always believed and practiced values that govern our society. Irresponsible statements about her private life will not be left to grow without a strong rebuttal," it added.

The statement also warned of strict legal action against those behind such stories about the 35-year-old.

"This may be read and understood in no uncertain terms that hence forth we would be forced to take legal recourse in any such event of a piece or article appearing without any credibility or which is an absolute fabrication of one's imagination... We must respect Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for her stand to remain silent on such baseless rumors but it would be wrong to use her name to further a personal cause or career," it read.
